Homework
Welcome to Mrs. Mulliken's class.

I have no doubt this is going to be a FANTASTIC school year!

It is my goal to create a safe classroom learning environment. Meaningful learning only takes place when children feel they are an integral part of the learning process. In order to create a community of eager learners, it is expected that all children follow our classroom rules, and treat everyone with kindness and respect. Together in class and with the help of our parents at home, we will build a positive and productive learning community!

My email address is mmulliken@flboe.com if you need to reach me for any reason.

Homework:

Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. All homework will be a review of concepts taught in class. Please be sure to check and sign your child's homework each day. Homework will generally consist of math, spelling, poetry as well as independent reading.

Spelling tests are every Friday. The students will be required to spell 12 words. They will be writing, "super sentences" which consists of six or more words, as well as putting the words in alphabetical order.

Math fact quizzes will be every Thursday. These quizzes will be timed. Our goal is to have the students begin to memorize their facts and not rely on counting on their fingers. Daily practice at home each day is essential for success!

Reading each night is part of required homework!
Twenty minutes or longer is the recommended time for first graders at this point in the year. We are encouraging children to make reading a part of their daily routine! That means reading on Friday and over the weekend! Parents please remember reading aloud to your child each day helps with fluency, concentration and reading comprehension!

Homework Reminders!
  • Try to find a quiet spot to do your homework.
  • Do your work neatly and carefully...don't rush through homework!
  • Be sure to put your name on the paper.
  • Have your parents check all homework
